The NBDA Supports Fair Sales Tax Legislation

In order to create a fairer retail environment the NBDA supports measures that would require internet and mail order purchases to be subjected to the same sales tax requirements that are currently imposed on local brick and mortar retailers.

In addition to creating a fairer retail environment, subjecting internet and mail order purchases to state and local sales taxes would assist state and local governments in providing needed government services to citizens who reside in those taxing jurisdictions.

Creating a more level playing field between tax free internet sales and taxed local brick and mortar retailers will allow local business owners to provide more local employment further strengthening local economies.

Exempting internet and mail order purchases from sales taxes allows consumers who make tax exempt purchases to benefit from tax supported government services without paying their fair share of taxes that directly provide those needed services.

The NBDA encourages Congress to pass national legislation that imposes identical state and local sales tax requirements on internet and mail order purchases that currently exists for local brick and mortar retailers.
