Today’s episode we’re talking about visual merchandising, and how to make standout product displays. We all know that first impressions matter. And when it comes to retail, they might mean the difference between a new customer and a lost sale. Your store needs to be consistently on it’s a game delivering the best representation of your products at all times. For a retailer This means having a strategy. So visual merchandising encompasses everything from storefront displays, and product displays to in store signage. The purpose is to attract and engage customers and motivate them to make a purchase. Today we have a few tips to help with merchandising. It’s important first to get inspired. Use the internet. There’s all different sources of merchandising inspiration at your fingertips. Before you start building out your displays in store, try looking up these resources online check out Instagram or Pinterest get some ideas of what other people are doing. Next tip when merchandising it’s important to appeal to the five senses. So while it’s tempting to focus only on the visual Look, don’t neglect the other sentences. So when it comes to sound, keep in mind that the music that you play in your store can have a big effect on how customers behave. So when you’re thinking about your stores playlist, think about your target customer and what they listen to. You want the music to be appealing to them. Remember, give your customers the ability to touch, feel, and test drive any bike that you’re selling in the store. When it comes to smell, there’s nothing like the sensation of opening the door in the morning to the smell of rubber of bicycle tires. While your nose may be familiar with it, I am sure your customers notice it right away. Okay, another tip around merchandising is to remember whitespace and keep that white space in mind. So what that means is not every corner or space in the store needs to be filled with displays or products. So white space, or what we call negative space is an important component of your store design and it can ultimately help highlight certain displays or product. So use white space with the purpose of keeping products on center stage in front of your customers eyes. With merchandising, it’s okay to go ahead and be bold. The goal is to create product displays that get customers to react. Think about when you walk into a store you see something super cool, you whip out your phone, you snap a photo and you share it on the big. So we want to make displays that get our customers interacting with the products and eventually buying them with merchandising is super important to us creative signage. Creative signage can help you clearly group and departmentalized your products while huddling customers find what they’re looking for quickly and easily, and also allows them to compare products in your store. Another merchandising tip is to group products that are commonly bought together. So one way to improve your store experience is to use your displays to cross sell certain products. So we all have walked into a store we’ve seen the mountain bike with the mannequin and the cool hydration pack on the back and maybe even the mountain bike has touring bags on it. Perfect example of cross merchandising. Cross merchandising is a great way to increase your customers average basket size. So we talked about those add on sales. So by placing products that go well together, you make shopping journey super easy, and you give them ideas that they might not have thought of on their own.

last tip with merchandising is to remember, it’s important to routinely refresh your product displays. So your store’s design should not stay the same at all time. So every time you have something new or noteworthy transition from season to season, refresh your stores, displays, layouts and signage. Some people some experts even recommend you do it once a month. I know for myself when I had my shop when I moved around, displays change it up that always created a certain buzz and feel in the shop environment. It’s a great situation so do that. When it comes to merchandising. It is important to be unique to your store and have a vision in mind at the end of the day.
