Whether a specialty bicycle retailer has several locations and a large staff or one location and a few employees, big decisions and challenging problems weigh on an owner’s shoulders daily. The NBDA Dealer Forum is a sounding board, a support group, and a safe haven for retailers.

Who is the Dealer Forum for?

The Dealer Forum is an exclusive benefit for NBDA members. You won’t find suppliers here or that employee you had to fire last week. Only owners and managers of physical stores with at least 50 percent of their sales related to cycling.

Think of it as group therapy meets your local cafe. These are your people and this is where they gather to share insider news, ideas, and inspiration. It’s also where retailers talk openly about the most pressing challenges they’re facing in their business because odds are, someone in the forum has been there too.

What to expect

Open discussion is valued here, and that works best when there are a few guidelines. When joining the Dealer Forum, all members agree to adhere to them, and those who don’t can be suspended or removed from the group by an administrator.

  1. Respect antitrust laws. Refrain from discussions that might violate federal antitrust laws, including discussions that might tend to raise, lower or stabilize prices, regulate production, allocate markets, encourage boycotts, foster unfair trade practices, assist in monopolization or in any way violate federal, state or applicable international trade regulations or antitrust laws.
  2. No forwarding. This is a closed forum and forwarding posts to non-members is prohibited without the author’s express written permission. Despite this precaution, be aware that the confidentiality of postings within the forum cannot be guaranteed.
  3. Keep it civil and respectful. Messages are not screened by the administrator. Keep your discourse civil and respectful at all times. Combative, inconsiderate, or otherwise demeaning behavior is unacceptable and will result in suspension or removal by the administrator.
  4. Identify yourself. Anonymous posts are not permitted. Once you have established your account, please set up your avatar and a signature line that will appear on all your posts. Your signature should include your full name, store name, city, and state, and will appear in all of your posts. This transparency allows for better networking, stronger relationships, and a high level of accountability.
  5. Protect yourself. Please install and use an up-to-date anti-virus program on your computer. This is for your security and everyone else’s.
  6. Stay on topic: the bike business. There are plenty of online spaces to discuss politics, religion, and other non-cycling industry topics. The Dealer Forum is a unique opportunity to talk shop, so please stick to the bicycle industry, the bicycle business, and bicycle-related topics. Commercial posts trying to sell a product or service are not appropriate at any time. If you have an off-topic message you think the group would benefit from discussing, please post it to Off-Topic and Personal Forum.
