BRR - BGDB

Fellowship. Fitness. Freedom. Black Girls Do Bike.

This episode’s guests are Monica Garrison, Black Girls Do Bike (BGDB) founder, and Chicago Chapter Shero, Celeste Adams. With over 100 chapters in the US, BGDB is a nonprofit growing and supporting a community of women of color who share a passion for cycling.

They strive to establish a comfortable place where female cyclists can support, advise, organize rides, and promote skill-sharing. By sharing positive images of ladies and their bikes, they affirm that black girls do bike! BGDB also encourages bike advocacy, education, volunteerism, and safety in all communities and worldwide.

Guest Host Sheri Rosenbaum, columnist, and Blogger at Sunflower and Pedals, will be chatting with Monica and Celeste. Topics include BGDB’s new partnership with Zwift, ideas on how shop owners can make women of color feel more invited, and the need for the cycling industry to offer extended sizing. We also discuss the challenges of proper helmet fit for black cyclists with natural hair, dreadlocks, or an afro. Helmets are an essential accessory requiring shops and helmet manufacturers to consider this issue.
