This podcast is designed specifically for the bicycle industry dedicated to strengthening our retailers and cycling community. Okay, let’s dive in. Today I’m going to talk about five things you can do today to increase business that costs you absolutely nothing a big zero. So grab a pen, pullover, open up your phone, take notes, these are simple things for today, that will increase your customer base. The first one I have concerns going virtual. So I want you to get your thinking cap out and stop avoiding it we need to get online. If customers are not coming into the shop right now. We need to cop to beat them at home, I highly suggest creating an online zoom event hosted by your shop and staff. You can talk about bike service where to ride, have a topic for women only, or open up an honest discussion about shorts, shoes, helmets, you can show the new items in your shop, anything you wish, head over to zoom, create an account, then create a meeting, give it a title, brainstorm up a description, and you’re ready to go. Once you’ve got that ready, I suggest surfing over to an app called Canva. Canva is a popular tool in which you can make free branded graphics for events. So make one for your virtual zoom event. And then take that whole package and go on to meetup.com, not a dating site meetup.com It’s a site that you can post your event and get your business in front of other people. The best part it’s absolutely free.  Okay, my next one, reach out to your current customers. Maybe you haven’t seen many of your popular customers this past year. It’s time to use your direct emails. Tap into your POS sit down in front of your computer and make it happen. Reach Out and nurture those relationships with people who have purchased from you in the past. Send an email to simply say hello. And ask them how they are. Keep in touch by offering customer exclusive offers to drive repeat business. The most important thing is making the notes personal. Given an update on how the shop is doing, or your personal feedback or review on products, not a hard one just takes some time.  Next tip for today involves activating the social feeds. So many consumers buy products they discover on social media. Time to make sure that your sites and apps like Facebook and Instagram, target your audience. So get active, freshen up your profile images, make sure your bio is up to date. And make sure all your contact information is there. For best results, mix up your content. So don’t just post text all the time. We want promotions, customer features, employee features meems. And then vary the types of video, images and text. stay consistent. You have to schedule this in. So like if it’s in the morning when you pour your cup of coffee, or at the end of the day with your afternoon beer, afternoon beer, whatever it is just have a daily time dedicated to doing this. Okay, next tip, use Google. Google is one of the most popular things out there. And if you have not set up a Google My Business account, you are totally missing out. It’s 100% free, and a really great source to drive traffic to your store. So simply go to Google My Business, you’re going to create your profile and make your listing. Remember, it’s absolutely free. Google My Business. Once you get there, add as many details about your business as possible. Don’t forget the address, phone number hours of operation special things about you. And then don’t forget the pictures. pictures are one of the most important parts of this. Google My Business.  Okay, I’ve been totally stoked about this next one. I’ve been talking to everyone about it recently. And it’s a way to get yourself some absolutely free PR. There’s a site called help a reporter calm. We’ll call it Haro. And what you’re going to do is go on to help reporter.com. And you’re going to sign up as a source, it’s absolutely free to sign up. As you sign up as a source, you’re entering your company details. And from here, what happens is you’ll choose topics. The topics involve health, finance, travel, biotech, business, fitness, choose a topic that your business could be a source on, personally, I sign up for all of them, but you choose once you get there. So once you sign up as a source, you select your topics, what happens is, you get three emails, three, you know, a morning email, afternoon email, and an evening email. And within these emails, there’s a list of topics that reporters are looking for reporters, journalists from big sources, like Reader’s Digest, New York Times, prevention, web, MD, Forbes, I mean, these are big, amazing sources. And basically, you look at the list, and there’s topics, you click on one of the links and it gives you more details. If you know something about one of these topics, like the other day, yesterday, there was the best hydration pack for mountain biking. Go ahead and lend your knowledge. So if the reporter uses your input, and then boom mentions your shop, it’s great, you can share it on your social feeds, people can reshare, and then when other people are searching your business name, boom, you come up as this huge source. So sign up each day, look through the emails and reply to a few each day. It’s super, super easy. One thing to note is that Haro won’t tell you when you’re published. So what you’ll want to do, if you haven’t already, is go to Google and set up a Google Alert for your shop name. You should do this anyway, go to Google set up Google Alert, put your shop name, and then you’ll know anytime someone mentions you. Super easy, free PR.  Okay, the last tip for this Friday is about your storefront. It sounds simple. But if your storefront looks dirty or uncapped, people won’t be enticed to come in. We want to get those new customers driving by and the best way is to have an attractive storefront. I suggest a daily checklist, we weekly maintenance tests. And this includes glass windows, sweeping, sweeping up outside wiping down walls, mowing, gardening, etc. You want to make sure that you’re paying special attention to do this on a daily basis. So make sure your associates know to perform the tasks. It doesn’t take a ton of effort but it goes such a long way into keeping your storefront attractive.
